Pot plants are an obvious choice, but many potted flowering plants sold primarily as gifts (as an alternative to cut flowers) may be difficult to reflower. Chrysanthemums, traditionally associated with Mother's Day, or gerberas might survive in planted in the garden, but orchids may be to challenging for the inexperienced gardener. Other flowering plants sometimes sold as gift lines, such as cyclamen or primulas are unsuitable cultivation in the warm parts of Queensland.
If you want to give a plant that Mum can enjoy for years to come, there are a huge variety of plants to choose, whether it's the garden, a balcony or indoors. Ask the staff at your local garden centre for help if you're not sure.
To add a touch of personalisation, you can pick a flower colour or plant that has sentimental significance to your mother. If she enjoys cooking, a fruit tree, herbs or unusual vegetable seeds may be appreciated.
